Window workshop slated in Huntington
4/13/2012
Wood windows get a bad rap as energy wasting, hard-to-clean, rattling relics. But did you know that these problems can be solved? Despite the claims we see and hear every day from TV and radio ads and the door-to-door salesman that pop by every summer, there is rarely a need to replace historic windows.
Keeping your old windows is aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly, and rehab can be done by a do-it-yourselfer. Huntington Alert and Indiana Landmarks are teaming up to bring Ron Zmyslo of Preserve Restore Maintain Indy to Huntington on Saturday, May 19 for a window restoration workshop.
In the morning session, Zmyslo will talk about how to make historic wood windows more energy-efficient. He’ll also suggest other steps that can save energy in historic buildings. In the afternoon Zmyslo will lead a hands-on session teaching participants the steps to restoring historic panes, including scraping and glazing.
The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at a private residence in Huntington. Registration is $15 for members of Huntington Alert, $30 for nonmembers (includes a one-year membership in Huntington Alert). Cost includes morning and afternoon snacks. Lunch will be on your own. Participation is limited, so contact Cathy Wright of Indiana Landmarks as soon as possible to reserve your spot, 260-563-4534 or cwright@indianalandmarks.org.
