 Volunteer tour guides

From guiding tours to stuffing envelopes, Indiana Landmarks' volunteers support our efforts to save and showcase Indiana's historic places.

Volunteer

No pay, but great benefits! Each year, people throughout the state donate thousands of hours of their time to support Indiana Landmarks’ many rewarding programs. In return, we offer training opportunities and special benefits including volunteer events, dinners, and trips.

You’ll receive the sense of satisfaction that comes with knowing you’re making a real difference. And you’ll look really cool wearing one of our name tags.

Heritage tourism volunteers
In Indianapolis, docents lead school tours throughout the year; serve as step-on guides for groups touring in motorcoaches; and help with other excursions. In addition, volunteers assist with events, conduct training sessions, research and develop tour scripts, serve on special committees and complete mailings. New volunteers are accepted each January. For a volunteer application or more information contact our tourism department, 800-450-4534, 317-639-4534 or tourism@indianalandmarks.org.

Membership and development volunteers
With more than 10,000 members across Indiana, Indiana Landmarks is the largest statewide or local preservation group in the United States, and membership is continually expanding. Volunteers organize and complete mailings to current, new and potential members. Contact Jamie Thompson, 800-450-4534 or 317-639-4534 or members@indianalandmarks.org for more information.

Morris-Butler House volunteers
Docents at the Morris-Butler House in Indianapolis lead tours, help out at special events, lead educational programming, and help prepare and serve Victorian Teas throughout the year. Each fall, volunteers also help produce and conduct From Dark Pages—a progressive mystery play. Contact the Morris-Butler House, 317-636-5409 or morris-butler@indianalandmarks.org.

West Baden Springs and French Lick Springs volunteers
Docents lead daily tours at the two historic hotels, only a mile apart in southern Indiana’s picturesque Springs Valley. In addition, they sell tour tickets and assist at Indiana Landmarks’ signature hotel gift shops at West Baden Springs and French Lick Springs. Training is required and is held each spring. Contact Sandi Woodward, 812-936-4034 or westbaden@indianalandmarks.org.
