House Hazards and RRP 101
Join us for a discussion of common hazardous materials found in older buildings and the EPA’s Lead Renovation, Repair, & Painting Program.
December 3, 2025
St. Joseph County Public Library Community Learning Center, 305 S. Michigan Street, South Bend
12 p.m. EST
Renovating an older home or building could mean encountering health hazards such as lead, asbestos, or mold. Join Indiana Landmarks for a discussion on how to approach common hazardous materials and an introduction to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program (RRP), established to promote lead-safe work practices in pre-1978 homes and buildings. The discussion will cover tips for identifying mold types, asbestos, and lead, and include an overview of lead-safe work practices required for contractors—and strongly encouraged for do-it-yourself renovators.
Presented in partnership with the City of South Bend and South Bend TradeWorks.
The workshop lasts approximately 1.5 hours. St. Joseph County Public Library Community Learning Center is an accessible venue. Questions? Contact north@indianalandmarks.org.
Ready for RRP certification? On Thursday, December 11, earn your EPA Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program (RRP) certification through a full-day training with an accredited RRP instructor. Separate registration required. Registration deadline: October 31.
This event is one in a series of trades training workshops presented by Indiana Landmarks and South Bend TradeWorks aimed at equipping historic homeowners with DIY knowledge and contractors with in-demand skills to offer clients with historic building repair needs.
