400 Years of Inequality Topic of Contemporary Art Exhibition

June 7 First Friday show features group exhibit in the Rapp Family Gallery at Indiana Landmarks Center.

A powerful, eye-opening exhibition titled, “400 (1619-2019)” will feature 12 contemporary Midwestern visual artists who will share portrayals of historic events and individuals, cultural perspectives, experiences and struggles through 400 years of inequality. The exhibition opens June 7 at Indiana Landmarks Center.

Participating artists include Mychael Shane, Anthony Radford, Michael (Alkemi) Jordan, D. Del Reverda-Jennings, Kevin West, Raymond Gray, Quiana Quarles, Matthew Eugene, Terry Wilson, Winterbourne Lapucelle Jones, Bruce Armstrong, and Ellis Morris.

Opening night performances on June 7 by poet Too Black, Krash Krew, and DJ’ iSM, along with a book signing by Gerald A. Trotter, author of Black Eyes See. The First Friday reception is a collaboration by artist and curator Anthony Radford, choreographer Shawn Cowherd, and poet Too Black.

Complimentary snacks and beverages will be available, and visitors can also tour Indiana Landmarks Center at 1201 Central Avenue in Indianapolis. Built as a Methodist church in the nineteenth century, the restored and adapted structure holds theaters and a reception hall in addition to the gallery and Indiana Landmarks’ headquarters.
