Historic Downtown Aurora Tour Showcases Landmarks in Ohio River Town

Oct. 19 tour showcases downtown revitalization as city celebrates its bicentennial.

As Aurora celebrates its bicentennial in 2019, Indiana Landmarks, Main Street Aurora, Dearborn County Historical Society, and the City of Aurora offer the opportunity to explore landmarks across the city during the Historic Downtown Aurora Tour on Oct. 19.

The tour showcases landmarks from the city’s history, including private homes, an 1850 church, a railroad depot, a commercial building, and even a local brewery housed in a warehouse with brewing history.

Aurora’s National Register-listed historic district spans 25 blocks of nineteenth- and twentieth-century buildings. Hit hard by the recession, the city’s Second Street has seen a wealth of private and public investment in recent years, and the downtown tour will showcase its revitalization.

Properties on the tour include the following:

Aurora City Building (235 Main Street), Tour Headquarters
David and Jennie Stapp House (306 4th Street)
Aurora Railroad Depot (510 2nd Street)
The Livery of Aurora (215 Bridgeway Street)
211 2nd Street
Crescent Brewery Park (corner of 5th Street and IN-56 across from Lesko Park)
216 Judiciary Street
223 Mechanic Street
First Presbyterian Church (215 4th Street)
Great Crescent Brewery (315 Importing Street)
