You’ll Wish You Were a Kid Again

On August 3, 2016, ArchiCamp at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore offers a unique spin on traditional summer camp.

ArchiCamp for kids

Looking for a fun activity for a fourth- through sixth-grader this summer? Check out our new ArchiCamp at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Offered as part of the park’s 50th birthday celebration, the camp takes place August 3, 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. ArchiCampers will visit historic structures in the National Park.

Campers will see a log structure in the National Lakeshore, before creating a model of a log cabin and a post-and-beam barn, relying on toothpicks and candy in the building process. They’ll also learn how to make bricks from clay. Instructors for the ArchiCamp include professional preservationists and park rangers. The children will learn about historic preservation and stewardship of the built environment.

Several organizations collaborated to create the 50th anniversary camp: Indiana Landmarks, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, Friends of Indiana Dunes, Westchester Township Museum, and the Field Station Cooperative. Register online at https://idnlarchicamp.eventbrite.com or call 219-395-1882 for more information. The fee includes lunch, snacks, and materials.
