First Friday Art Show – Sifting
Indiana Landmarks hosts an art exhibit curated by Indianapolis artist Alexander Toms.
December 6, 2024
Opening Reception
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST
Rapp Family Gallery, Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Avenue, Indianapolis
Indiana Landmarks presents “Sifting,” an art exhibit featuring work by Indianapolis artist Alexander Toms. Through photography and found objects, the exhibit explores Toms’ relationship to an out-of-use die casting facility in Kokomo, Indiana, and the spiritual connection created between artist, place, and histories left behind.
Alexander Toms is a 2024 graduate of Indiana University Herron School of Art and Design. He is an image maker, book artist, and musician who seeks creative outlets to explore the worlds that interest him. Toms currently serves as a book arts assistant at the Herron Art Library as well as a frame fabricator at the Factory Arts District.
Complimentary snacks and beverages will be available at the free First Friday opening reception on December 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. when guests can also meet the show’s artists and see the stunning architecture of Indiana Landmarks Center’s grand spaces. Built as a Methodist church in the nineteenth century, the restored and adapted structure holds performance and reception venues in addition to Rapp Family Gallery and Indiana Landmarks’ headquarters.
Following the December 6 opening reception, the exhibit hangs through January 21, 2025 and is open for viewing during Indiana Landmarks Center’s regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except when closed for private events or holidays.
