Logs to Lustrons Tour 2022

Explore a century of architecture in the Indiana Dunes on a tour visiting 17 historic sites.

Saturday, June 25, 2022

Tour departs from Bailly Homestead/Chellberg Farm parking lot, 900 North Mineral Springs Road, Porter, IN 46304
8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. CDT

Do you favor rustic landmarks, or are you a fan of Mid-Century Modern? Either way, we’ve got you covered on our June 25 Logs to Lustrons tour, featuring log structures of early settlement days, frame homes from the Victorian period, and mid-century homes of glass, stucco and metal. Indiana Landmarks and the Indiana Dunes National Park (IDNP) team up to present 17 sites spanning a century of architecture, including restored residences not normally open to the public and vacant landmarks in need of a new use. Nine interiors will be open for touring.

For even deeper insight, an evening lecture on Friday, June 24, highlights the architecture and history of the National Park. You’ll find the details and info on overnight accommodations here.

Tour shuttles will depart from the Bailly Homestead/Chellberg Farm parking lot at each ticket time. Shuttles will circulate throughout the tour, so you can spend more time at sites that interest you.

Children who join the tour (with parent or guardian) can earn a Junior Ranger badge by picking up a workbook, program, and a bag with sketch book and pencil when they check-in. At the end of the tour, they show the completed workbook to a Park Ranger at the check-in site to earn a badge. Children under 16 are welcome to attend the tour for free but will still need to reserve a ticket.

Choose your timed entry ticket and departure time: slots available every 15 minutes beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the last tour departing at 2 p.m., Central Time. The tour includes walking and stairs to sites and inside structures. (Not all sites are accessible to all.)

You do not need to pay the Indiana Dunes National Park’s entrance fee to attend Logs to Lustrons. The entrance fee is waived since Indiana Landmarks is a partner of the national park, and funds being raised by this tour help support the park. However, if you decide to recreate in the national park outside of this tour, you will need to pay the park’s entrance fee.

Entrance passes can be purchased for $25  from the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, the Paul H. Douglas Center, seasonally at the West Beach kiosk, or online at recreation.gov.
