Join fellow Indiana Landmarks members for refreshments and holiday cheer at our Holiday Open House in Salem, one of four festive open houses we’re offering around the state.

In 2020, attorney Lisa Fleming purchased the 1897 International Order of Odd Fellows Building on Salem’s picturesque courthouse square for her law office. Spanning three stories with a full basement, the sturdy building’s tall decorative wood ceilings, maple flooring, cast-iron columns, and virtually untouched third-floor lodge hall drew Fleming, saying when she got the building she “had the feeling of stepping back in time.” Fleming worked with architect John Hawkins of New Albany-based TowerPinkster to rehab the exterior, aided by a $100,000 historic renovation grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs with support on technical advice from Indiana Landmarks’ staff. Interior rehabilitation is underway guided by architect Ron Stiller of RCS + Associates of Floyds Knobs. It’s a work-in-progress revealing dramatic spaces previously hidden by drop ceilings and 1970s paneling.

Note on Accessibility: The venue’s main entrance requires navigating steps to enter. A ramped entrance is available at the side door facing Market St. Upper floors of the Odd Fellows Building are not accessible to all. For more information, please contact south@indianalandmarks.org.

Feel like traveling? Indiana Landmarks’ Salem Holiday Open House is one of four—go to one or all: December 9 at the Poledor House in South Bend, December 11 at North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, and December 16 at the Linwood House in Valparaiso.
