“Be part of the change you want to see,” is a motto Indiana Landmarks has taken to heart in Wabash, where the nonprofit has partnered with city leaders and private owners to champion rehabilitation of multiple properties in the city’s East Wabash Historic District.

On October 14, see the results on a self-guided tour of six homes dating from 1849 to 1972 that showcases the area’s diverse architecture, historic rehabilitations underway, and completed transformations.

Tourgoers will visit one of Wabash’s oldest homes, the 1849 Alber House, saved from demolition and artfully rehabbed by new owners as a comfortable residence. Three nineteenth-century houses purchased through Indiana Landmarks’ initiative to increase homeownership in the neighborhood will be tour stops as well, including one that the organization is partially renovating before offering for sale. The tour also includes a look at the formerly endangered 1880 Wabash Sheriff’s House and Jail being rehabbed as offices and apartments, and a 1972 California Contemporary home regaining its late mid-century appeal.
