60-Minute Walking Tours

Discover animals hidden in architecture and sculpture in downtown Indianapolis. Guides will share the symbolism behind these curious creatures, and what the architectural and artistic details reveal about Indianapolis. Featured landmarks include exteriors of the Indiana War Memorial, Federal Building & U.S. Courthouse, Soldiers & Sailors Monument, Circle Tower Building, and more

Guides will share stories and little-known history, revealing how the district’s art, architecture, and unique combination of public and private spaces create its distinctive character as the state’s capital. architectural styles as guides share its evolution into a walkable, vibrant place to live downtown.

Guides will help tourgoers discover distinctive building details, identify architectural styles, and consider what questions to ask when encountering a new streetscape. Building Tours

Explore Indy’s German heritage while exploring the historic Athenaeum. Guides will point out unique architectural features; discuss how the building reflects the founders’ “sound mind in a sound body” ethos; and share the impact Athenaeum members have made on the Indianapolis
community. We proudly present this tour in partnership with the Athenaeum Foundation.

Learn how Indiana Landmarks transformed a nineteenth-century church into a modern cultural
venue. Tourgoers will examine architectural details, while hearing stories of the site’s many lives. Participants will leave with a greater appreciation for historic preservation and the mission of Indiana Landmarks.

Specialty Tours

Immerse yourself in German American culture while exploring the historic Athenaeum. Sample
traditional German fare as guides share the building’s story and its place within broader German heritage. The tour is 75-90 minutes. Pricing includes one beverage per person- a pint of beer or a soft drink – and three pre-selected appetizers. We proudly present this tour in partnership with the Athenaeum Foundation.

Experience Indianapolis on a leisurely eight-mile bike tour. Over 2.5–3 hours, guides will
communicate the enduring impact of German heritage on the city’s landmarks, economics, politics, and culture. Featured landmarks include exteriors of the Athenaeum, South Side Turnverein, Turnverein Apartments, and more. Pricing does not include bicycle rental.
