Director, Northeast Regional Office
Fort Wayne, Indiana
Indiana Landmarks seeks a highly motivated professional to lead the organization’s historic preservation activities in northeastern Indiana. The Director identifies threatened properties and devises strategies to save them, providing technical assistance to stakeholders, organizations and property owners, advocating for historic structures, and facilitating community revitalization. The Director educates communities on the value of historic preservation and assists in membership development and fundraising. The Director will manage an office space in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the state’s second largest city, and supervise one part-time staff person and occasional intern or volunteer. The successful candidate must reside within the boundaries represented by the Northeast Regional Office. The position reports to the Vice President of Preservation Services (Indianapolis, IN). Salary range is between $65,000-$67,000 commensurate with experience, with a generous employee benefits package.
Duties
- Represent Indiana Landmarks in advocacy efforts to save endangered landmarks in a nine-county region;
- Work with individuals, community groups, and local governments on preservation issues and projects, including initiating use of the grant and real estate acquisition and loan programs of Indiana Landmarks;
- Provide staff assistance on a contractual basis to historic preservation commissions;
- Help establish new preservation organizations and commissions in the region;
- Contribute articles to the Indiana Preservation, our bi-monthly magazine and provide content for organization’s website;
- Lead or assist with other projects and programs assigned by supervisors; and
- Manage facility within regional office, overseeing day to day operations.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and implementation of historic preservation principles and rehabilitation standards;
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills;
- Proven people skills, including ability to interact with and motivate individuals and groups;
- General knowledge of computers, photography, and grant-writing; and
- Bachelor’s degree required in historic preservation, architectural history, real estate or related field; Master’s degree preferred. Prior work experience in the field will be strongly considered; experience with historic properties preferred.
