Trails to Rails in Indiana’s Calumet Region

Learn about the historic and contemporary pathways of Indiana’s Calumet Region, from centuries-old trails to today’s active railways. On May 3, Indiana Landmarks and Indiana Dunes National Park host an illustrated talk tracing routes used by native inhabitants, freedom seekers, and rail lines, and exploring their impact over time.

Guest speakers include Cecil Wilson, historic research specialist of the Pokagon Band of Potowatomi; Larry McClellan, director of the Underground Railroad Northwest Indiana Freedom Trail; and Nicole Barker, director of capital investment and implementation and Double Track NWI project manager for the South Shore Rail Line.

TICKETS

Tickets cost $15/general public, $10/Indiana Landmarks members, and are free to children and youth ages 16 and under with RSVP. The talk begins at 7 p.m. CDT with a brief history of the Indiana Dunes National Park. Time for audience Q&A follows the main program. Your ticket included complimentary snacks and refreshments before and after the talk. Indiana Dunes National Park Visitor Center is accessible to all.
