Hunt for treasures on July 9

Get ready to hunt for treasures on July 9 Antiques market at Indiana Landmarks campus and yard sales throughout Old Northside

For those who like to shop for antiques, collectibles, architectural salvage and yard sale deals, Treasure Hunt is a summer highlight. Sponsored by Indiana Landmarks and the Old Northside neighborhood, the event on July 9 has grown every year, with more antiques vendors, more yard sales, and more shoppers.

Indiana Landmarks projects more than 50 booths of antiques inside and outdoors at Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Ave., and on the lawn of the adjacent Morris-Butler House, 1204 North Park Ave.

The fourth annual Treasure Hunt runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. At Indiana Landmarks Center and Morris-Butler House, admission is free from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Early admission to cherry-pick great finds, from 8 to 9 a.m., costs $5 per person.

Outdoor music and roving performers and food trucks add to the festive atmosphere, with a Zaharako’s ice cream parlor in the lower level art gallery for those who want a cold treat and relief from the heat. Between Central and Park, 12th Street will be closed to traffic and lined with food trucks, with tables and chairs for on-street dining.  Morris-Butler House will host Grog ‘n Grill for those over 21 in its rear court and a Victorian tea room inside.

More than 40 private homeowners throughout the Old Northside Historic District will stage yard sales, joining the annual Big, Big, Really Big Sidewalk Yard Sale at All Saints Episcopal Church at 16th and Central. The adjacent St. Joe neighborhood joins Treasure Hunt this year by staging yard sale booths on Central under I-65. Maps listing Treasure Hunt yard sale locations will be available on July 9 at Indiana Landmarks Center.

The Old Northside Historic District runs from I-65 on the south to 16th Street on the north, and from Pennsylvania on the west to Bellefontaine on the east.
