Frankenstein Headlines Spooky Halloween at Indiana Landmarks

Sammy Terry to emcee event on October 26 in Indianapolis featuring scary movies, music, lighting, and a costume contest.

Scary movies, scary music, scary lighting, a costume contest for monsters, and adult beverages highlight Frightful: A Silent Halloween in the Grand Hall at Indiana Landmarks Center on October 26.

In coordination with Indiana Humanities’ One State/One Story program, Indiana Landmark celebrates the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein with screenings of the 1910 short silent Frankenstein, accompanied by University of Indianapolis musicians performing John Berners’ movie score, and the 1931 sound film Frankenstein: The Man Who Made a Monster starring Boris Karloff.

Sammy Terry—a ghoul who emerged from his coffin each week to introduce late-night TV’s “Nightmare Theater” on an Indianapolis TV station—will emcee the evening, introducing the films and the costume contest between the films.

“We’ll award cash prizes for the best classic monster, the best original monster, and the best couple in monster costume. Work on presentation because you’ll parade yourself across the stage in style for crowd reaction and judges’ view,” counsels Mark Szobody, director of special events at Indiana Landmarks.

Doors open on Friday, October 26, at 6:30 p.m. with a cash bar. Spooky music starts at 7 p.m. The film screenings begin at 7:30 p.m., with the costume contest taking place during the intermission. The event ends at 10:15 p.m.—plenty of time to head to a club, bar or another party in Halloween disguise.

Silent Halloween costs $15 per person, with a discount for members of Indiana Landmarks. Tickets may be purchased in advance online at www.indianalandmarks.org/silent-halloween-18 or by calling 317-639-4534. Tickets also may be purchased at the door on the evening of the event.
