Indiana Landmarks Awards Funding for Rehabilitation Projects in Attica

Funding will support eight preservation projects in historic downtown

Indiana Landmarks is preparing to award funds to eight preservation projects in downtown Attica through the Attica Revitalization Subgrant Program.

The local program is supported in large part by funds from the Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grants Program, which is funded by the federal Historic Preservation Fund and administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior.

The Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grants Program, named in honor of the late preservation leader from Vermont, fosters economic development in rural communities through the rehabilitation of historic buildings in those communities. The program provides recipients with a single grant that is then regranted in smaller amounts to individual projects.

In 2022, Indiana Landmarks received $650,000 to rehabilitate historic commercial buildings in downtown Attica by providing subgrants to qualified building owners. Funds from the program will be used for improvements at the following properties:

202 South Perry Street
2 South Perry Street
100 North Perry Street
101 North Perry Street
106 North Perry Street
117 North Perry Street
102 East Main Street
111 East Main Street

Indiana Landmarks’ Western Regional Office is administering the Attica Revitalization Subgrant Program, which will award amounts ranging from $35,000 to $100,000 for work including structural repairs, masonry rehabilitation, and window restoration.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer this local subgrant program to support continued economic revitalization efforts and preservation of historic commercial buildings in downtown Attica,” says Tommy Kleckner, director of Indiana Landmarks’ Western Regional Office. “We’re grateful to the National Park Service for making these funds available and thank Senators Young and Braun, and Congressman Baird for their support in making this important preservation initiative possible.”
