Volunteer at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Samara in West Lafayette
Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2026.
Applications are open for volunteer opportunities at Samara, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in West Lafayette. Volunteers play a vital role welcoming guests, leading tours and maintaining the property’s unique landscape. No special knowledge or experience is needed, and training is provided.
Completed for John and Catherine Christian in 1956, Samara offers visitors a rare and immersive opportunity to experience Wright’s work just as if they were guests of the family. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 2015, the property opened for public tours in 2023 following a $2 million restoration that addressed structural and mechanical issues, refreshed finishes and ensured visitors could once again enjoy all areas of the home. Today, the house is considered one of the famous architect’s most fully realized Usonian designs in the United States. Indiana Landmarks co-stewards Samara with the John E. Christian Family Memorial Trust.
Volunteers must complete at least six shifts per year—ranging from 30 minutes to three hours each. Volunteers may serve more hours if they choose.
Volunteering at Samara requires a one-time $20 background check fee. Volunteer orientation will take place in March 2026.
All prospective volunteers must complete a volunteer application, meet with staff for an interview and complete a background check. To apply, submit an application by Jan. 31, 2026, at https://www.samara-house.org/volunteer/.
