Join fellow Indiana Landmarks members for refreshments and seasonal cheer at our Holiday Open House in Attica, featuring both the Old Church at Cottrell Village and the 1887 Rohlfing House.

Tucked along Main Street in downtown Attica, Cottrell Village is a picturesque cluster of white-frame Greek Revival-style buildings that look plucked out of a New England scene. Attica native John Cottrell restored the properties in the late ’80s and ’90s as a gift to his hometown, and today the c.1850 Old Church, built as Attica Presbyterian Church, remains a favorite community gathering spot co-stewarded by Indiana Landmarks and Fountain County Landmarks.

Around the corner at 200 South Brady Street, the historic Rohfling House showcases its original owners’ commitment to quality materials and craftsmen. Born in Germany around 1839, Charles Rohlfing arrived in Attica in 1861, where he made a living as a partner of Rohlfing & Colvert, a firm involved in furniture sales and undertaking. Charles and wife Mary built their impressive brick Italianate home on Brady Street in 1887. Thanks to the preservation work of subsequent owners, the home retains many original features, including decorative pressed metal cornices and window hoods on the exterior, and spectacular woodwork, stained glass, and oil-on-canvas wall coverings on the interior.

Note on Accessibility: Due to a small number of steps required to enter, the Rohlfing House and Old Church are not accessible to all. For more information, please contact west@indianalandmarks.org.
