Indiana Landmarks seeks a strategic and mission-driven leader to serve as Director of Development to advance our vision and mission.

This role will be the architect and driver of a high-performing, statewide revenue strategy that furthers the mission of historic preservation. As a key member of the team, the Director of Development will lead a dynamic development operation, cultivate transformative partnerships, and inspire broad philanthropic support – from major donors to grassroots champions.

What You’ll Do: 
Strategic Revenue Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, multi-channel fundraising strategy aligned with organizational goals and the strategic plan.
  • Cultivate a culture of philanthropy across staff, the Board of Directors, and volunteers.
  • Lead annual revenue forecasting and long-term planning, identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.
    Ensure legal and policy compliance across all development functions.

Stewardship, Donor, and Partnership Development   

  • Identify and expand corporate sponsorships, major donors, prospects and partnerships, leveraging networks for high-impact collaboration
  • Lead grant process, which could include prospecting, writing, submission, and compliance reporting.

Internal Collaboration & Community Engagement 

  • Represent Indiana Landmarks as a visible and effective spokesperson in collaborative initiatives with various Indiana Landmarks organizations, media, partners, donors, and the public.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing development team.


What We’re Looking For: 

  • Personal passion for the mission of Indiana Landmarks
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Equivalent experience in cultural institutions, education, or nonprofit work helpful
  • Public speaking experience and comfort representing the organization to external audiences
  • Strong strategic planning, budget development, and financial analysis skills; ability to drive measurable results and adapt to change
  • Experience in proposal writing, fundraising campaigns, and donor communications
  • Demonstrated success in personally securing significant gifts and maximizing gift potential
  • Experience with CRM/donor management systems preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel across the state

Program Coordinator

Samara – The John and Catherine Christian House, West Lafayette, Indiana

The John E. Christian Family Memorial Trust seeks an outgoing, detail-oriented, and motivated individual for the full-time position of Program Coordinator at Samara, a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed property in West Lafayette open for public tours from April through November. Salary is $38,000-$40,000 plus benefits for the full-time position, which includes weekends but not holidays April-November, and a Monday-Friday schedule, December-March.

Samara is one of seven Frank Lloyd Wright-designed structures in Indiana and the only Wright-designed house in the state open to the public on a regular basis. The house is considered one of the most complete examples of Wright’s late-career work, and seasonal tours showcase the architect’s design philosophy and innovations. The John E. Christian Family Memorial Trust co-stewards the National Historic Landmark in collaboration with Indiana Landmarks, a statewide preservation nonprofit.   

The Program Coordinator supports the Site Director in managing daily operations, volunteer coordination, and visitor services at Samara. This role helps develop and oversee educational programs, tours, and special events, ensuring that guests and volunteers enjoy a professional, welcoming, and meaningful experience.  

Applicants do not need to be experts on Frank Lloyd Wright or architecture, but successful candidates should be willing and prepared to learn the material necessary to conduct programs and tours.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leading engaging and informative tours (as needed) that provide a safe, welcoming, and memorable visitor experience. 
  • Preparing and securing the historic property for visitation, including staging spaces, developing educational materials, and assisting with light cleaning to maintain presentation standards.
  • Supporting visitor services by handling check-in, recording attendance, and sharing membership opportunities with guests. 
  • Managing volunteers, including shift schedules. 
  • Assisting with operational tasks such as answering phones, managing email and scheduling, coordinating clients, and contributing to social media content.
  • Helping with seasonal transitions of the site, updating media listings and schedules, and supporting basic bookkeeping. 
  • Contributing to archival projects, educational programming, and research during the off-season. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • Strong organization, time management, and attentive to detail. 
  • Able to lift 30 pounds and perform some tasks in low postures. 
  • Proficiency in basic office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook). 
  • Applicants must be willing to complete a background check. 

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficiency in Eventbrite event management software and social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in a related field such as History, Public History, Museum Studies, Historic Preservation, Art History, Education, or Nonprofit Management. 
  • Equivalent experience in cultural institutions, education, or nonprofit work will also be considered.
