Treasure Hunt North in South Bend on July 21

Indiana Landmarks and partners bring antiques market and yard sales to South Bend historic district.

Shoppers, people watchers, antique hunters, art buyers, yard-sale junkies and vintage auto appreciators won’t want to miss the annual Indiana Landmarks Treasure Hunt from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 21. The event takes place at Indiana Landmarks’ Kizer House, 801 West Washington, and throughout the West Washington Historic District in South Bend.

There will be booths of collectibles, antiques, architectural salvage and art on the parking lot and inside Kizer House, with antique cars displayed along West Washington Street.

Bargain hunters will want to check out more than a dozen yard sales throughout the West Washington Historic District, roughly bounded by William, Walnut, and Thomas streets, and LaSalle Avenue. The event also includes a scavenger hunt for all ages that will reveal the neighborhood treasures of historic West Washington Street.

Indiana Landmarks’ partners in Treasure Hunt North include Studebaker National Museum, Notre Dame Center for Arts & Culture, Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend & St. Joseph County, Near Westside Neighborhood Association, South Bend Heritage, St. Paul’s Memorial United Methodist Church, and The History Museum.

The History Museum will offer complimentary first-floor tours of the Oliver Mansion, along with Fancy Pants Bazaar, a sale of deaccessioned and vintage items. At Notre Dame Center for Arts & Culture, children’s activities will include story time, face painting, and Children’s Peace Festival, as well as Zumba and live music.

St. Paul’s will give tours of the landmark church, with recitals on the newly re-built pipe organ. South Bend Heritage will offer tours of two houses it rehabbed, and the Near West Neighborhood Association is staging corn hole and giant-sized games along Washington Street.

The event is free and runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Indiana Landmarks recommends parking at St. Paul’s Memorial United Methodist Church, 1001 W. Colfax Avenue; the parking lot shared by Studebaker Museum and The History Museum at 201 Chapin Street; and Lawson-Fisher Associates engineering firm, 525 W. Washington Street; or on the street in the surrounding neighborhood.
