Within a short drive of Louisville, the Sillings-Schoen-Mitsch farm offers the best of both worlds: a serene rural setting and the nearby amenities of a large urban center. Located just outside Georgetown in Floyd County, the farm is currently for sale by Indiana Landmarks.
Tucked into the hilly terrain of southern Indiana, the historic Sillings-Schoen-Mitsch farm includes nearly 160 acres of prime real estate just 15 minutes from downtown Louisville. Built on land that originally belonged to some of the area’s earliest settlers, the property includes a 1910s bungalow farmhouse with three barns, a tenant house, and a few outbuildings.
“A mix of cultivated fields and woodland set among rolling hills, with easy access to Interstate 64, make this site ideal for a buyer who wants a rural property with the conveniences of city living nearby,” says Greg Sekula, director of Indiana Landmarks’ Southern Regional Office.
The property will be sold with easements requiring the historic structures to be preserved. Though it will require extensive rehab, the picturesque bungalow retains many of its original features, including oak woodwork, maple floors, and pocket doors. Indiana Landmarks has already installed new roofs on the house and barns.
The preservation covenants allow for construction of one additional house on the property. The land will be required to remain undeveloped and could be used for continued farming or other agrarian operations, such as a horse or alpaca farm or vineyard.
The property is located next to Floyd County’s recently announced Novaparke Innovation and Technology Campus, a 60-acre business park that will target companies focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Indiana Landmarks received the property as part of an extraordinary bequest from the late Zelpha Schoen Mitsch of Georgetown. Proceeds from the sale of the property will benefit the endowment of Indiana Landmarks.
