December 10, 2026
6 to 8 p.m. EST
Taggart House, 1331 N. Delaware St., Indianapolis
Join fellow Indiana Landmarks members for refreshments and seasonal cheer at our Holiday Open House in Indianapolis, one of five festive celebrations we’re hosting around the state.
An immigrant from County Monaghan, Ireland, legendary civic leader Thomas Taggart served as Mayor of Indianapolis from 1895 to 1901, marking his tenure with expansive public improvements for the city, including initiating Indianapolis’s parks and boulevard system through the acquisition of more than 950 acres along the White River for Brookside Park, Riverside Park, and Spades Park.
Taggart chose North Delaware Street to build his impressive Colonial Revival-style home in 1914, living there until his death in 1929, after which his daughter, Lucy, a renowned artist, lived and worked in the house. It was later renovated in the 1980s as the national headquarters for the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Today, Indiana Landmarks is collaborating with a group of community leaders envisioning the Taggart House as a cultural and civic center that will stand alongside the vibrant cultural organizations that already call the North Delaware Street corridor home, including the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, the historic Propylaeum, the Harrison Center for the Arts, and Indiana Humanities.
Note on Accessibility: Due to steps required to access upper floors, the Taggart House is not fully accessible. A ramp will be available to allow first floor access for all. For more information, please contact central@indianalandmarks.org.
Feel like traveling? Indiana Landmarks’ Indianapolis Holiday Open House is one of five—go to one or all: December 1 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Evansville, December 2 at the Liberty Theater in Lawrenceburg, December 3 at the Rohlfing House and Old Church at Cottrell Village in Attica, and December 15 at ARCH, Inc.’s Calhoun Project in Fort Wayne.
